Characteristics of Organisms Card Sort

I have created a characteristics of organisms card sort activity that will help students with a lot of the middle school vocabulary that I have to teach during my biology unit.

The card sort helps reinforce the following concepts in a fun way.  Each of these topics are included in the card sort.

  • Autotrophic vs Heterotrophic
  • Sexual vs. Assexual
  • Prokaryotic vs. Eukaryotic
  • Unicellular vs Multicellular

As a card sort game with a class set this activity will take about 20-30 minutes.  If you print them out for each student and have them glue them into their INB, it will take the full class period.  I have done it both ways.

Everything is included to teach this lesson tomorrow.  Check out the characteristics of organisms card sort here.  This activity is aligned with TEKS 6.12D

6.12 D - identify the basic characteristics of organisms, including prokaryotic or eukaryotic, unicellular or multicellular, autotrophic or heterotrophic, and mode of reproduction, that further classify them in the currently recognized Kingdoms;
