5E Science Lessons Are Here - Change Your Focus From Prep to Teaching

I'm super excited to announce the arrival of my 5E science lessons.  If you aren't familiar with the 5E model, you should take a quick look at this blog post I wrote about it.

Before we dig into what's included in each lesson, I want to let you know that each lesson has been specifically designed with the busy teacher in mind.  One of the most challenging things about being a teacher is the seemingly endless prep involved in a high-quality lesson.  I've done all the work for you!  Let's take a look.

Included in Every Lesson:

Engagement:
Objective and I CAN statements – The objective statements are intended to be printed and hung up in class during the lesson.  They clearly define the objective using standards-based language and more student-friendly, "I CAN" statements.

Blank Objective and "I CAN" statements are also included if you would like to create your own.  Word wall cards are designed to help students with new science vocabulary.

The engagement activity in each lesson provides explicit instructions to reel students into the new content.  Each activity is intended to take 10-15 minutes and will require all students to participate in the conversation or activity.

Exploration:
Every 5E lesson comes with a student-centered lab which is differentiated for many learning styles.  You can read more the labs and how to set them up here.  Your students will love taking control of their own learning.  If you already own my labs you can find the remainder of the 5E lessons discounted in my store.

Explanation:
After students have explored the new information, the teacher will want to reinforce the new concepts with a great explanation.  The lesson will come with an interactive PowerPoint, INB templates for students science journals, modified notes, and anchor chart diagrams and ideas.

The PowerPoint presentations are chunked into bite-size pieces for the student.  Throughout the slides students will have to interact with the notebooks and each other.   The are checkpoints to gauge understanding and practice with the new material.

Elaboration:
The student choice projects provide options for students to demonstrate mastery of the content.  A student that can explain the topic to someone else truly understands the concept.

Evaluation:
The evaluation piece of the lesson will provide you with a vocabulary crossword puzzle, a weekly homework, and a final assessment (modified also included).  At the end of the 5E lesson students will have a much better understanding of the concept.  It doesn't hurt that your job just got a lot easier, too.
