Monster Mix and Match Adaptations Game

Students build a monster out of heads, bodies and limbs, then take it to five different biomes and roll to find out which monsters rule and which ones don't last the week. They end up arguing about adaptations without you having to bring it up.

  • The whole game, ready to printMonster parts, five biome cards, the reference card and a scoring grid for every student.
  • Student directionsA page they can follow themselves, plus group roles so nobody sits out.
  • Follow-up discussionQuestions that push it into adaptation, genetics and natural selection once the game is over.
Monster Mix and Match reference card, monster parts and a biome card

Print it, cut it apart, and hand each group a set. One die per table is the only other thing you need.

1

Build a monster

Groups of three or four pick a head, a body and a set of limbs, and every part carries an adaptation.

2

Visit five biomes

Each table is a biome. Flip the card, roll the die, and see whether those traits help or hurt.

3

Argue about why

Scores go on the grid, then students work out what made the winning monsters win.
